Origin and Cultivation: Birdhouse gourds, known scientifically as Lagenaria siceraria, are native to Africa but are now cultivated worldwide, particularly for their interesting shapes and hard shells which are perfect for crafting.
Growth Characteristics: These gourds are vigorous climbers, often requiring support structures like trellises. They produce large, white flowers that bloom at night, attracting pollinators like moths.
Uses: Traditionally, these gourds are dried and used to make birdhouses, hence the name. The hard shell preserves well, making it ideal for decorative items, utensils, and even musical instruments.
Harvesting: They need a long growing season; gourds are usually left on the vine until after the first frost when the vine has died back, ensuring the gourd has matured and dried on the plant.
Quality: All Gourd seeds packaged by Seed Needs are intended for the current and the following growing seasons. All seeds are stored in a temperature controlled facility that is free of significant amounts of moisture.
Quantity: Seed Needs offers generous quantities. You can share with friends and family, or you can save the extra seeds until the following season, if properly stored.
Packets: Each seed packet displays an artful illustration of the variety to be grown, as well as detailed seed sowing information on the reverse side. They measure 3.25″ wide by 4.50″ tall.
Promise: Seed Needs will never knowingly supply GMO based seed products. The vast majority of our seeds are open pollinated & heirloom, with the exception of a few hybrids.
Germination: Seed Needs packets contain some of the freshest seed available. Direct from the growers. If sown correctly, you will begin seeing results in only a matter of days.
Freshness: All Gourd seeds are packaged in tear resistant and moisture resistant packaging. This keeps the seeds a whole lot fresher than the competitions selection!

Grew great
Seeds grew fine. Unfortunately i have no gourds because i harvested way too early and they all went to rot. But i still have plenty of seeds for this years season so now i know better. Will absolutely buy more once we get the rest of the farm setup

Fantastic seeds grew fantastic plants
Do yourself a favor and watch a video of how to clip the seeds. The reason for clipping is that the shells are so hard they often rot before they are able to germinate. The seven seeds I clipped (and bagged with a wet paper towel, then placed on the warmth of my dvr) were germinated after two days and are now two feet tall and thriving, the leaves are enormous. I have them set up to climb the fence in my front yard, and I canât wait to see what they produce!

Healthy seeds
Great value and healthy seeds.. planted in a bed with sunflowers and zinnias and these seedlings emerging above and climbing a block wall rapidly.

Quality seeds
These seeds were planted just over 8 weeks ago, the plants are beautiful, gourds are already coming on. I will order again next year.

I would avoid
I planted half with soaking and clipping on a heat mat in a grow tent and got ZERO germination after 30 days.Tried again with the same regime but added a dome, 1 week in and no growth.

very good
9/10 seeds planted were able to germinate, unfortunately it was a bad growing season for me so i was a couple weeks behind the growing season. luckily i my plant pushed out ONE gourd that was able to grow to maturityðððð

My incomplete review
The seeds had a good germination rate I find if I put them in a wet paper towel and store in a dark warmish area. The gourds are looking very healthy and I have no complates as of right now but I am curious to see if the seeds are really bottle gourds so I will be coming back at a later time to give a report and if I do or dont recommend this item but so far so good.
