Almost all my seeds actually grew!!
I was super hesitant to buy seeds on Amazon BUT last year my local nursery had these ambrosia cantaloupe starter plants which I bought, the fruit is delicious and they did so well in AZ! Well fast forward, this year it was not a variety I could find anywhere so I took a chance! I used a fer methods (direct sow in soil, soaked seed 24 hours then planted, germinated in a wet paper towel) and surprisingly all methods have grown really well. I currently have 3 plants growing on a trellis and have had to give several starter plants away because so many of the seeds grew! Good “problem” to have!

Fresh Seed Couldn’t Wait To Sprout
These are the best cantaloupe I’ve ever had and my neighbors, who’ve received melons, agree. These are a hybrid so saving seed won’t work and it’s only available through Burpee but they’re worth every penny. I started these seeds on the 26th of March and I had good sized sprouts on the 29th (your results may vary). The last time I grew these, I had 18 melons on 4 vines. It was easy to tell when they’re ripe: you can smell it! and they slip the vines when they’re done. We’re all looking forward to this year’s crop and I’m planting more of this variety than last year. The space will not be wasted!

I have planted and harvested these seeds
I planted these seeds on June 8th, I planted a whole pack of seeds along a 4 foot section of cattle panel trellis. These seeds overgrew my allotted section, they are everywhere and very strong. I accidentally cut one of the vines coming out of the ground last week with a weedeater.Today is August 27th, we got our first 2 cantaloupes today. They are delicious!!!’. I couldn’t smell them while outside but after an hour or two inside I could smell how good they were.I harvested the seeds along with a store bought cantaloupe, if there’s a significant difference I will update. But that will be about a year from now.I said I’d do an edit so I guess I’m doing it now. I did not buy these seeds this year but I wish I would have. I am currently in September of 2024, I bought these seeds in May or June of 2023. The seeds I harvested in 2023 did not withstand the winter and were not viable for planting in 2024. The seeds I planted this year came from Tractor Supply and yielded baseball sized fruit. Super disappointed.

    Great product!!!
Seeds germinated well and grew fast I planted 3 vines and so far I have harvested 2. There are 2 more full sized ones ripening and 1 almost full size. Plus there are 3 still growing in size. On average that’s about 3 melons per vine so far. I’m so happy with them. I did have 2 that got to about 2”-3” inches and then stopped and turned yellow. The first one I picked was probably about 3.5 pounds. It was the best cantaloupe i have ever had, it was so sweet and juicy! I have not tried the second one as I just picked it. These melons when ripe have a beautiful light orange and color to the rind. I’m not sure if my pictures do the outer color justice. They have an incredibly sweet floral scent when ripe (uncut). After picking them I put whole melon uncut in the fridge to cool it down a bit and the whole fridge smelled sweet. I highly recommend getting these seeds!

    Germination
Only had 50% germination rate compared to almost 100% on the 4 other watermelon varieties I started

    Get these, you’ll thank yourself!!
There are quite a few cantaloupe varieties available. I have tried 12 different kind over the last 15 years. By a large margin, these grow, and taste the best to me. Not only me, but my family, friends, neighbors, my mailman, co-workers, parents. I live in SoCal, near the beach( about 5 miles away). My weather gets hot, and humid, which is a killer from powdery mildew. These are resistant to PM, and few other diseases. Ambrosia melons get fairly big, 6-10 lbs. Juicy, and absolutely delicious. This is a musk melon variety. You’ll smell them when they get golden, and easily “slip” when ripe. They store well, but that’s rarely a problem. When you plant 3 mounds of 3 plants, you should harvest between 35-40 melons !! Crazy production from this gem. I fertilizer organically down 3 inches from the seed site. Then again in 2 month, with half dose with a side feed. That just means out away from the root zone under the stems. Get these, you’ll love them, trust me!
