    Roomy planter for indoor growing
Just received the planter today. “Assembly” couldn’t be easier – just stack the 3-lobed planters. Initial observation – the bottom tray COULD be made a bit thicker/sturdier, as the planter is a bit heavy once filled with soil/potting mix. The only real negative I see is the lack of wheels at the bottom of the unit, as some similar products provide, which would make portability easier for those who might want/need to move their indoor garden around a bit. I’ll post an additional review once I’ve planted some seeds and have some herbs growing.

    Easy to Assemble, Works Well
This planter took only. a few minutes to assemble, fill with soil and plant with lettuce and spinach seeds. The lettuce did well and the spinach did not, but that may be due to my lighting for I have this in a greenhouse with a big of shade. I think it is an easy way to grow a leafy crop in a small amount of floor space.

    Quality, durable, good price
This is a lot sturdier than I expected for the price, and it’s perfect for keeping some strawberries for us and leaving a few for the dog (or a rabbit, if he’s quick). I highly recommend this planter and this seller

  4. Amazon Customer

    Nice
I bought this for herbs. It is nice. It gets heavy with dirt and plants. There isn’t a whole lot of room for the plants once everything is assembled. I think with herbs, it will serve my purposes but I wouldn’t put anything much bigger in there. I do have a difficult time watering it. The water usually stops out the side and the saucer on the bottom isn’t large enough to catch the overage. You need to water it really slowly to keep everything contained.

    Great concept, needs tweaking
Alright so this might be a long post, bare with me.Pros:First of all, these are thick which is great because they’ll withstand the typical greenhouse abuse that’s expected, you get 15 slots and they have soil separators. The soil separators are a great feature because potted plants tend to get root bound, the separators create air pockets beneath the soil so that when roots hit the air they stop growing and send a signal to the plant to send out new roots. From personal experience I can tell you that you’ll get better growth and yield at harvest time. Now onto the cons and the following are the reasoning behind taking stars off. Hopefully the manufacturer reads this so that improvements can be made. Otherwise I will follow the cons with a section on how to adapt the kit.Cons:First and foremost, drainage is wrong. The location that put the drainage holes makes it so that water pools in the bottom of each planter level, maybe that’s their intention but that creates a mosquito haven in each level.Second, the slits in the soil separators are too wife and allows for soil to get down into the pocket below which will lead to a mold situation as i had observed, mold is bad.Third, and this is on me not the manufacturer however they should note in the instructions to not go over 5 levels unless you have a center support to prevent toppling. Trust me, I learned the hard way. 😞Now onto advice and solutions plus plans i have to upgrade these kits, which i most likely will buy many more. Again, they’re not bad, they just need tweaking. So as to the drainage, I suggest you drill some holes in the flat portions of the bottom so that you don’t have standing water and silicone seal the premade drainage holes. Use a strip of window screen which is cheap and silicone it over the drainage holes you drilled to prevent insects, especially mosquitoes, from getting inside. Now onto the soil separators, cut to fit landscape fabric or window screen to prevent soil from getting down into the “aeration pocket” to prevent the drainage holes grom getting clogged.Third, do not go higher than 5 unless you have a center support. A 6 foot rebar pounded into the ground will suffice and prevent toppling.Improvements and tweaking i plan on doing.I am going vertical in my greenhouse next year so i plan on making improvements so I can achieve my goal of growing a lot of food in a small foot print.I will have sonotubes 2 feet in the ground with a 6 foot rebar in the center and concreted so that the base is stable. I will attach steel turntables/lazy susans to the concrete bases and bolt the tower bases so that the entire tower will turn freely. Using construction adhesive, every other level till have a beating glued where the venter hole is so that the plastic isn’t rubbing against the rebar. Yes i know this is over engineering but doing these improvements will allow for tall towers and prevent tipping or toppling.I am also going to find a way to add an automatic watering system so that each tower can be hooked up to the irrigation system I have plumbed in already. In closing, these are really good towers and are thick. Depending on how you intend to use them will determine how well they work out. If you plan on having them stationary on a deck, then I would recommend the new drainage holes along with the screen/fabric and you can go 10 high. If on soil, then please add a center support so you don’t suffer the failure I have. Now if you plan on going gonzo like me which would be 10 levels high with turntables so the towers can be spun not just for ease of access, but to provide every plant equal amounts of sun, then you have the blueprints i laid out above. I do plan on buying more because greenstalks are so expensive and my upgrades to these will save a ton of money, just make sure you come up with a game plan based upon hownyou intend to use these. In the future I will post pictures as an update and if the manufacturer wants I’ll provide them with photos so that customers can see the different ways of utilizing these towers.

    Sturdy planter
When I received this I was pleased that it was as sturdy as it appeared in the picture – As a cabinet maker I felt the price was far more reasonable than trying to build one. I do plan on making a white oak or cedar wood base (type of wood that is better for repelling water) with swivel wheels so as to be placed on the outside (southern) deck. We live in Vermont so ‘Winter’ would not be conducive to leave this out side! It will be nice to be able to enjoy fresh Herbs all year long.

This was a present but the person I gave it to seemed very pleased and is now planting it up. It looks like a clever idea.

Was easy to assemble and looks great.

you’ll find several vertical garden tower options on amazon, and this one had the best price and seemed to be a decent product. I was happily surprised by the quality and size of the tower pieces. A very high quality thick plastic used, and excellent sized stacking pots. Can’t wait to fill this up and start growing my strawberries and herbs in it, I know I’ll get a lot of plants in this!

  13. AidanEnos

I haven’t set it up yet, but it looks sturdy and simple, just the overall size is much smaller than expected. Should look great full of strawberries
